Mera Peak Expedition is one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal, which is situated in the Everest region to the east of the main Khumbu trekking route, Mera Peak stands at 6,476 meter above sea level. The trail follows by crossing the high ridges and spectacular deep river gorges of the Sherpa homeland of Everest region before entering the less-frequented wilderness of the Hinku valley. The climb to the top of the Mera Peak provides a chance to see the amazing views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Cho-Oyu. The best times for Mera Peak Expedition are spring and autumn.
Climbing Mera Peak offers stunning panoramic views of five 8,000-meter peaks: Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Cho Oyu. Mera Peak trekking and climbing route can be suitable for fit and experienced hill walkers, who are looking to take part in Himalayan peak climbing. We will continue this trekking to the northwards into the Khare of the Mera Peak. Before ascending to Mera Peak (6,476 m) you have to sleep one night in a tented camp at a high camp, managed by a local lodge in Khare.
We provide standard accommodation (twin share bed room) during trekking and excellent tented camp at Mera Peak High Camp. Trekkers will continue hiking to the Khare passing the hidden Buddhist monasteries, Sherpa culture and magnificent views of surrounding peaks. If you are capable of making this trip, no need to worry about trekking, because our trekking guide will make it a safe and lifetime memorable journey. After having a taste of the sublime beauty of Mera Peak your journey ends and you need to go back to Lukla to take a short flight to Kathmandu. The best time for this peak is spring and autumn.
Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal's vibrant capital, where you'll be warmly welcomed with marigold garlands. After transferring to your hotel, take time to relax and acclimate to the bustling city. This initial day is perfect for easing into your journey, setting the stage for the exciting adventures ahead in Eastern Nepal. Optional Evening Activity: If you wish, you can spend your evening experiencing the Pashupatinath Aarti, a captivating religious ceremony held at the Pashupatinath Temple. The Aarti usually begins around 6:00 PM and lasts for approximately an hour. This ceremony is a mesmerizing display of traditional music and rituals, providing a profound insight into Hindu spiritual practices. Please check the exact time for the Aarti on the day of your visit, as it may vary. This option is not included in the standard itinerary but offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture.
Normally, we book a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,846 m / 9,350 ft.); however, if we are unable to secure a direct flight for some reason, we will need to take an alternative flight option via Ramechhap. If our flight to Lukla is scheduled from Manthali and we have extra time, we will explore the Kathmandu Valley before driving to Manthali for an overnight stay. However, if time is limited, we will depart from Kathmandu at 2 AM to catch the flight on Day 2. This will take approximately four hours to cover the distance of 132 kilometers to Manthali. Upon arrival in Lukla, take some leisure time to refresh. Then, embark on your trek from Lukla through Surke to Paiya (2,730 m / 8,957 ft.). The trek journey covers about 9.82 kilometers and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. During this journey, you will ascend 620 meters and descend 720 meters. As you pass through vibrant landscapes, dense forests, and traditional villages, each step brings new natural wonders and cultural experiences. The trail unfolds with picturesque views of the Dudh Koshi River valley, offering an introduction to the serene and rugged beauty of the Himalayas. The trek journey covers about 12.1 kilometers and typically takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. During this journey, you will ascend 820 meters and descend 690 meters. The trail winds through dense bamboo and pine forests, alive with birdsong and occasional wildlife sightings. As you gain elevation, the landscape opens to reveal terraced fields and hillside villages. Upon arrival in Panggom, a traditional Sherpa village, you’ll encounter monasteries and rows of fluttering prayer flags, symbolizing the community’s Buddhist heritage. The trek journey covers about 7.24 kilometers and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. During this journey, you will ascend 820 meters and descend 490 meters.
